About sound walks

Sound walks is an exploration of, and an interaction with, Stanza's SOUNDCITIES.
It tries to reimplement a kind of geographical spatiality to the sounds,
so that they can be experienced in connection with a visual reference to their origins.
Thus, you can take a walk in your favorite city, listening to the different sounds as you go along.

The sounds will become audible when you get close enough,
and they will position themselves in the stereo 'image' according to your relative position.
The sounds from the Soundcities database are randomly positioned on the maps each time you enter a city.
In cases where the cities contain more than 25 uploaded sounds,
25 sounds will be randomly chosen and thereafter inserted.

If you wish to add new sounds to a city (not necessarily a city currently present in the database),
it is possible to upload them at SOUNDCITIES. Once accepted by Stanza, they will also appear on this site.

Unfortunately, some computers have difficulties handling flash applications
containing many simultaneously playing audio tracks. This may result in uneven playing of the sounds,
and in such a case you might want to run sound walks on another computer.

Sound walks was created in 2008 by Jakob Hougaard Andersen,
student at the University of Aarhus, Denmark, as part of a course in multimedia aesthetics.
