Abstract

I understand that there's often little choice in choosing a bibliography style-journal X says you must use style Y and that's that. If you have a choice, however, I strongly recommend that you choose something like the plain standard style. Such a style, van Leunen argues convincingly, encourages better writing than the alternatives-more concrete, more vivid.

1.1 Information

This LaTeX study group is intended to teach all of its members a little more about LaTeX and its friends - TeX , METAPOST , METAFONT , AMS-TeX etc.

We will do this by presentations held by the group members at each meeting. The presentation can be of a specific class or package, a technique, a tool, a technologi or anything else related to LaTeX .

There is a meeting each week, and a possibility to try the presented things at the computers in campus.

The meetings start with a cup of coffee. We will take turns to buy the coffee.

Time:: Thursdays 8:30 am.
Place:: Matematisk kantine. (Building C). From there we may go to the computers in 540.K25.

Remember that in all tetex-based distributnios you can use texdoc «package name» to get documentation for most packages. Typing texdoctk gives a menu with documentation for all (or at least some) locally installed packages.

In $TEXMF/doc/guides, you can find lots of interesting guides for LaTeX and friends. It includes "The Not-So-Short Introduction to LaTeX"[13] and lots more.

The book " TeX for the Impatient"[14] has been released as TeX code under a GNU Free Docucumentation license.

"A List of Sins of LaTeX 2e Users"[22] is a very good document about things you shouldn't do in LaTeX .
