I'm used to looking for answers in the NG's: most of them came by E-mail. The answers all centered around the different versions of libc. What happens is that FreeBSD seems to use libc.4 for its own purposes and libc.6 in its Linux compatibility mode. Both are present on the machine. By playing around with soft links I was able to get hello.world to compile without the error message, but not to stop the compiled program crashing. In view of the total absence of replies in the FreeBSD newsgroups and the lack of any answer in this group from anyone who has succeeded in using Beta on FreeBSD, I have to assume it's never been done. Unfortunately, I don't believe I'm the person with the ability to do it. You win some, you lose some. C'est la vie. Cheers, Dave.
