CSCW

The group has been one of the founders of CSCW (Computer Supported Cooperative Work) research in Europe - since 1988-89 the group has been actively involved with CSCW and ECSCW conferences. The EU-funded EuroCOOP and EuroCODE projects were part of the European effort in the area and sowas the COST initiative COTECH, that the group was part of. More recently another "pair" of EU projects (Desarte and Workspace) along with CHMI has been the basis for empirical, theoretical and design work in CSCW. Through its focus on work and participatory design, the group has helped CSCW research move 'beyond groupware'. The approach developed by the group has united detailed empirical studies of use with theoretical and empirical analyses of technological, organizational, historical and physical context, and with exploratory technology design that points ahead, hence exploring possibilities as well as problems of future CSCW technology.
The group has a focus of thorough empirical, user-centered analyses of complex use situations. More and more these use situations are crossing the boundaries of work and home, education and leisure, and many recent activities of the group focus on these boundaries
