The name Web Support, has many connotations. This page clarifies what that name entails in the Daimi context.

What Web Support is

Web Support take care of maintaining the infrastructure behind the official Daimi webpages. This infrastructure consist of some 'machinery', structuring the official webpages in an appropriate way, as well as layout & design. Furthermore, Web Support do such mundane task as handling emails and phone call from a wide variety of people.

Presently, we are implementing the rules for websites at Aarhus University as laid out in Netstedspolitik for Aarhus Universitet. We do not fully comply and it is still an open question whether it is possible; but we are at the forefront and report back when we find points that need to be clarified in the rules.

Now a days, a website is the hub for companies and institutions. At Daimi the website is used the staff and students, from outside by investors, researchers, journalist, future students etc. Web Support takes care of structuring the website to - at least - adequately fit all of these persons. Structuring alone does not make an engaging website; thus we collect and present relevant news and information on a bi-weekly basis.

Above we presented some of the things we do. Below we provide some examples of what we do not do.

What Web Support is not

We do not

• Decide the looks, contents, structuring etc. on course webpages. This is entirely up to the lecturer.
• Have the power to bully anyone to deliver contents to us.
• Update the contents of the website(!) - at least only a fraction; most information is maintained by the person closest to that info, e.g. the accountants update the Travel Rates page.
  
• Setup students personal web-account, nor do we provide help doing so.
  
• Help create students webpages.
• Help connecting your machine to the network. This is the area of staff, and they have written webpages describing how to do it.
• Teach you how to use or setup web-publishing tools and programs. Not even those available at the departments machines. Those programs are used in courses, where you can be taught how to use them.
• Read newsgroups! OK: Sometimes we do, but do not expect any reaction from us if you post to the newsgroups; instead you should contact us directly by email websupport@daimi.au.dk.
