History of Design/CPN

The Design/CPN package is developed by Meta Software Corporation, Cambridge MA, USA - in close cooperation with researchers from the CPN group at Aarhus University, Denmark. From 1989 to 1995 the Design/CPN package has been sold on a commercial basis (with a price tag of US $ 24,000). In this period the package has been used by more than 60 private companies and organisations all over the world.

Effective January 1996 Meta Software Corporation has decided no longer to distribute and support Design/CPN on a commercial basis. The main reason for this decision is the fact that the company now is focusing on Work Flow Analysis by means of special purpose tools - while the more general Design/CPN tool is of less interest for Meta's prime business area.

As a consequence of Meta's decision, the future distribution, development and support of Design/CPN are now provided by the CPN group at Aarhus University, Denmark. Meta has entered into this agreement with Aarhus University in order to promote the continued development and use of Design/CPN as an important Petri Net tool.
