Guide to Error Report Format

Below you can see what the individual fields in an error report is supposed to contain. There are three kinds of fields:
  • (**) - These fields should always be filled out.
  • (*) - These fields are optional.
  • Other fields are often provided by the authors.
Fill-out form

Manual(**): title of manual (tutorial, reference, etc.)
  Page#(**): which page number?
Description(**): simple error report (e.g., "in line 34 and 36
                   replace 'busg' with 'bugs'")
Comments: often a note from the authors
Submitter(**): your name and e-mail address
X-ref(*): reference to other error reports

Error Report (e-mail)

Below find the plain text error report fill-out form that you can copy/paste into your mail tool. Above you can find the guide to the fields in the form. When you have completed the form you should send it to the technical support staff. Please set the subject of the e-mail to "Error in Design/CPN Manual".

Tutorial

[961119e0003]
Page#: 10-19
Description: The text that accompanies the two figures refer to "Global#2" The correct name should be Declare#2 as it appears in the figure.

Page#: 14-14
Description: The instructions direct one to add a color set to "Enter Order". I think, based upon the figure on page 14-15, that this should be Entered Order".

[961119e0005]
Page#: 14-16
Description: Near the bottom of the page it says, "Remove Enter Order and Shipped Product from the selected group". I believe the name of the latter transition should be "Ship Product".

Page#: 14-17
Description: At the top of the page it says, "Click the mouse on Enter Order. Click the mouse on Ship Product." I believe that this should be "Entered Order" and "Processed Order" respectively.

Page#: 2-2
Description: In "Prerequisites for This Tutorial" it is erroneously claimed under item 3 that the examples are included with the release of Design/CPN. Describe instead that the examples are located next to the tutorial documents on the WWW pages.
Comments:
Submitter: Christoph Schuba (schuba@cs.purdue.edu)

[970702e0008]
Page#: 10-11
Description: In the upper figure it is shown that a Small order will be put on the place Product Out. However, in the lower figure, which shows the result of the occurrence of the transition Process Orders, the place erroneously has a Big token. On the next page there is another reference to the Big token.

Page#: Chapt. 11
Description: This chapter contains a description of concurrent occurrences of a transition, among other things. However, the current defaults of Design/CPN only allow single occurrences as the Occurrence Set Options are set to zero. This may be confusing when following the examples of the text, such as the one on page 11-4.

[970702e0010]
Page#: 15-19
Description: The default setting of the General Simulation Options of Design/CPN does not match the description in the tutorial. It is described as set to No Limit, while there is actually a default limit in the tool.

Page#: 15-21
Description: It is described that Fair Interactive can be set via General Simulation Options. This does not apply anymore because if Fair Simulation is set in the Simulation Code Options then both Interactive Run and Automatic Run are already enabled in the Sim menu.

Description: In "Additional Experiments" the reader is encouraged to experiment with changing the parameter file SalesOrderParmsV2. However some configurations result in a raised ML exception during simulation. For instance, try 5 Experts, 3 Novices in the staff, and 3 Fast Equipments in the pool.

Page#: various
Description: After the "Part N" separator pages (e.g. "Part 1: CP Net Fundamentals" or "Part 2: Design/CPN Techniques", there is not a blank page. This causes errors when trying to print manuals on boths sides of page.

Page#: Chapter B1,B2,B3
Description: In the chapter one is encouraged to use the diagram called BPMA_Model_V2. In the current version of Design/CPN it can be very difficult to make it simulate without getting an exception raised.
Comments: We suggest that you do not run this model with Design/CPN if you have problems with exceptions. Just read the material without using BPMA_Model_V2 with the tool.
